Softness of cement:
Softness was long controlled by sieve testing, but now more sophisticated methods are used. The most common method is to control the grinding process and to test “determining the speed of air passing through the cement bed”.
Quality:

Time taken:
Setting and hardening of cement is a continuous process but two points are separated for testing purposes. The initial setting time is the interval between the mixing of cement with water and the time when the mixture loses its properties and hardens to some extent. This stage is almost the end of the period when the wet mixture can be molded.
The final setting time is the point at which the cement has set and gained sufficient strength to withstand pressure. Most concrete specifications require a minimum initial setting time at normal temperature of about 45 minutes and a final setting time of more than 10 to 12 hours.
